Harbor engineers with the City of Pittsburg Marina and Waterfront Department and grant coordinators from the California Delta Conservancy inaugurated a solar-powered Recreational Fishing Pier Pavilion, hygienic fish-cleaning station, and waterfront promenade lighting upgrade on Sunday morning along the outer breakwater pier at 51 Marina Boulevard in Old Town Pittsburg. Situated at the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers overlooking Suisun Bay and Mount Diablo, the public Pittsburg Marina pier provides license-free shoreline fishing and scenic Delta access for thousands of East Contra Costa families.

At the midpoint of the concrete public fishing pier, crews erected a 32-foot galvanized-steel wind-and-sun canopy topped with a 4.8-kilowatt marine-grade solar array and fitted with four heavy-duty stainless-steel fish-cleaning tables, high-pressure washdown sprayers, and commercial inline macerator grinders connected directly to the municipal sanitary sewer. Replacing older open rinse sinks prevents fish offal from entering the marina basin and keeps the pier deck clean and odor-free for passing walkers.

Along the 1,400-foot waterfront promenade linking the Marina Community Center to the Old Town dining district, masons installed sixteen accessible composite-timber viewing benches and custom rod-holder rail brackets, including six lowered 34-inch wheelchair fishing bays. Electricians also mounted thirty-two corrosion-resistant 3,000-Kelvin LED marine bollard lights along the seawall walkway.

The $360,000 waterfront enhancement program was approved by the Pittsburg City Council using a California Wildlife Conservation Board Public Access grant and Marina Enterprise funds. East County anglers and boaters can check Delta tide charts and slip availability on the City of Pittsburg Marina Official Portal.
