280th Town Hall Examines Social Media and Youth Well-Being

On Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. PT, DeSaulnier will host a virtual town hall on Zoom examining the impact of social media platforms on youth and adult well-being. According to reporter Mairead Glowacki at the Antioch Herald and Claycord, the session marks DeSaulnier's 280th town hall and mobile district office hour since he took office in January 2015.

DeSaulnier will be joined by two guest researchers:

  • Dr. Brian Keum, Associate Professor at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health
  • Dr. Supreet Mann, Director of Research at Common Sense Media

The briefing follows the 2023 advisory issued by then-U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy highlighting the growing body of research on social media usage and youth well-being, and will cover federal legislative proposals to strengthen online privacy and platform accountability. Constituents can RSVP online at https://desaulnier.house.gov/town-hall-rsvp or call (925) 933-2660 to submit questions ahead of the broadcast.

Antioch Police and U.S. Fire Administration Mark National First Responders Day

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, the Antioch Police Department and the U.S. Fire Administration recognized National First Responders Day, honoring sworn police officers, detectives, community service officers, evidence technicians, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and 911 dispatchers serving Antioch and Contra Costa County, according to two reports by Allen D. Payton for the Antioch Herald and Antioch Herald National First Responders coverage.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration and the First Responders Children’s Foundation, approximately 4.6 million career and volunteer first responders serve communities across the United States. The observance traces emergency medical transport back to the nation's first civilian ambulance placed into service in Cincinnati in 1865, followed by Colorado becoming the first state to officially designate First Responders Day in 2017 before Congress established Oct. 28 as a national day of recognition. This year's national observance also featured the First Responders Children’s Foundation’s annual Roll Call of Heroes ceremony in New York City, commemorating the foundation's 25th anniversary alongside America's 250th birthday.
