Contra Costa Water District Honors 14 Local Student Artists in Annual Water Awareness Showcase
Board of Directors celebrates winning youth illustrations promoting environmental stewardship and conservation

The Contra Costa Water District Board of Directors formally honored fourteen student artists across central and eastern Contra Costa County during its public board session this week in Concord. The celebrated youth participants won top honors in the water district's annual Water Awareness Youth Calendar Contest, which encourages young scholars to explore water conservation through creative visual arts. Winning artworks will be prominently featured in the district's widely circulated 2027 community calendar distributed to households throughout the region.
The annual creative showcase fosters vital environmental awareness among young community members, underscoring the critical necessity of protecting local water resources and preserving the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta watershed. Teachers and family members gathered in the board auditorium to applaud the honorees, whose illustrations addressed water conservation techniques, watershed protection, and sustainable irrigation practices. Water utility leaders highlighted that instilling conservation consciousness in the next generation is essential as California continues managing climate variability and periodic drought conditions.
The Contra Costa Water District was established by voters in 1936 to secure dependable freshwater deliveries for the region's agricultural and industrial heartland. Today, the public utility treats and delivers reliable drinking water to approximately 500,000 residents across central and eastern Contra Costa County, including Concord, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Clayton, and portions of Walnut Creek. The youth calendar competition represents an enduring pillar of the agency's community education outreach, engaging dozens of regional public elementary and middle schools each spring.
Board President and district general management presented each student artist with an official certificate of commendation, a commemorative framed reproduction of their winning entry, and an educational award package. The presentation took place inside the CCWD Board Room located at the district's central operating headquarters at 1331 Concord Avenue in Concord. Community members seeking further details regarding school education programs, classroom curriculum grants, or water saving rebates can reach customer services by telephone at (925) 688-8000.
Printed copies of the commemorative 2027 youth art calendar will be made available free of charge to district customers, municipal libraries, and public community centers beginning in late November. The water district also plans to display high-resolution digital scans of all fourteen winning submissions through its online education gallery. Residents interested in obtaining a calendar or reviewing household conservation guidelines can access educational materials via the Contra Costa Water District website.
