The City of Concord is inviting residents, youth groups, and civic organizations across the Diablo Valley to participate in the Love Concord Volunteer Kickoff on Saturday, October 24. The morning stewardship event will focus on removing accumulated litter and debris from the public walking trail and open field located directly behind the Concord Skate Park near Willow Pass Road. Volunteer check-in will begin promptly at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning, with organized field cleanup activities launching at 8:30 AM following a coordinated welcome.

Designed to be accessible for families, high school service clubs, and neighborhood volunteers from Concord, Walnut Creek, and Pleasant Hill, the cleanup requires no prior environmental restoration experience. Municipal parks department staff and event coordinators will conduct a comprehensive morning safety briefing at 8:30 AM and supply all necessary cleanup equipment, including protective gloves, trash grabbers, and collection bags. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle and wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and long pants suitable for walking through grassy field areas.

The Love Concord program was launched by the City Council and municipal public works officials to foster civic pride and expand volunteer partnerships across Contra Costa County's largest city. Clearing plastic litter and windblown debris from open spaces behind the Concord Skate Park prevents pollutants from washing into local creek channels and storm drains when autumn and winter rains arrive. In addition, well-maintained trails and park perimeters create a safer, more welcoming recreational environment for young skateboarders, dog walkers, and seniors using the park district.

Local service committees, scout troops, and faith congregations frequently use the autumn Love Concord kickoff to earn community service hours while working alongside city department personnel. Municipal maintenance crews will be stationed on site with utility trucks to haul away collected trash bags and sort recyclable materials at the conclusion of the morning shift. Building sustained resident engagement around neighborhood parks complements ongoing municipal funding for street sweeping and open-space maintenance.

Concord residents and East Bay volunteers planning to join the Saturday, October 24 trail and field cleanup can complete advance online registration through the municipal portal at cityofconcord.org under the Love Concord program page. Questions regarding group registration, accessibility accommodations, or parks volunteer opportunities may be directed to City of Concord community relations staff at (925) 671-3000.
