The Saint John of Rila Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church community in Concord announced on Wednesday that planning is underway for its annual autumn heritage festival and regional cultural assembly. Parish leaders and community organizers finalized schedules for the two-day gathering, which welcomes families, culinary artisans, and folkloric dance ensembles from across Contra Costa County and the greater San Francisco Bay Area to celebrate traditional Southeastern European music, arts, and culinary traditions.

Organizers highlighted that the cultural festival will feature interactive workshops teaching traditional Bulgarian round dances, choral singing masterclasses led by Bay Area Balkan choir directors, and authentic artisanal demonstrations of woodcarving and traditional embroidery. Youth educational programs will showcase bilingual storytelling sessions, introductory language exhibits, and historical displays documenting the century-long civic contributions of Southeastern European immigrants throughout Central California and the East Bay region.

Civic volunteers and parish council members coordinated with City of Concord municipal parks and recreation liaisons to secure overflow parking and community access permits along the parish grounds corridor. A portion of the charitable proceeds generated through festival admission and artisan craft booths will support local East Bay food distribution banks and parish youth education funds serving Diablo Valley families.

Diablo Valley residents and visitors can view the complete schedule of dance performances, register for youth folklore workshops, and inspect parish event guidelines online at svetiioanrilski.org. Questions regarding volunteer opportunities and artisan booth reservations may be directed to festival coordination coordinators Monday through Friday at (925) 682-1200. The autumn cultural assembly begins next month at the church grounds in Concord.
