Antioch Historical Society Seeks New Board Members by October 25 to Guide 50-Year Museum Transformation
East Contra Costa heritage organization recruits leaders with nonprofit, finance, and grant-writing experience for 2027 board term.

The Antioch Historical Society has launched a formal community recruitment drive seeking dedicated volunteers to join its board of directors in 2027 as the Antioch Historical Museum embarks on a comprehensive institutional transformation after 50 years of service. Society officials in Antioch announced that applications from prospective board candidates across East Contra Costa County must be submitted by the formal deadline of October 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Interested community leaders and heritage supporters should email their qualifications directly to selection committee coordinator Carla Marymee at carlamarymee@gmail.com.
Located inside the historic Riverview Union High School building at 1500 West 4th Street in Antioch, the museum has preserved the cultural, industrial, and agricultural history of the San Joaquin Delta and Diablo Valley region for half a century. To guide its next phase of modernization, the nominating committee is actively seeking individuals with demonstrated professional experience in nonprofit organizations, finance and accounting, business or organizational leadership, and fundraising and grant writing. Board members play a hands-on governance role in overseeing exhibit renovations, archival digitization, and educational partnerships with local school districts.
Cultural heritage commissions and historical societies in neighboring Concord, Walnut Creek, Pittsburg, and Brentwood have increasingly collaborated on regional archival grants to preserve East Bay history for younger generations. Incoming 2027 board directors at the Antioch Historical Society will help lead strategic capital planning, expand state and county cultural grant applications, and modernize public exhibition galleries celebrating Antioch's maritime, railroad, and multicultural heritage. Volunteer docents noted that adding financial and grant-writing specialists to the board will strengthen long-term endowment sustainability.
Civic officials with the City of Antioch and the Contra Costa County Historical Society commended the museum's 50-year milestone, noting that local history museums serve as vital educational anchors for elementary school field trips and civic tourism along the Delta waterfront. Board service requires attending monthly governance meetings, participating on standing finance or exhibition committees, and supporting annual community heritage festivals on West 4th Street.
Antioch and Diablo Valley residents interested in applying for the 2027 board of directors should send a brief statement of interest and professional resume to carlamarymee@gmail.com before 5:00 PM on October 25, 2026. Visitors can also tour the museum galleries on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM or explore historical archives online at antiochhistoricalmuseum.org. General questions regarding museum membership, archival donations, or board responsibilities may be directed to the museum office at (925) 757-1326.
